How to Block a Number on Your iPhone
Have you ever had an annoying number keep calling you? Maybe it’s some telemarketer trying to sell you something, or maybe it’s a family member who won’t stop calling even though you’ve asked them to stop. Either way, blocking that number on your iPhone will stop it from ringing when they call, so you can focus on important people in your life and not the annoyances of life. Here’s how to block a number on your iPhone.
Open Phone
You can block someone from contacting you by following these steps: go to Phone in the iPhone settings and select Blocked contacts. Select the contact you wish to block, click the Block this Caller button, and select Done. This will stop any text messages or phone calls from that contact coming through. You may want to follow up with an email as well explaining your reasoning for blocking them so they don’t misunderstand what happened.
Tap Recents
Tap the three horizontal lines in the upper-right corner.
Scroll down and select Recents. Find the number you want to block and tap it. The number will now be grayed out, indicating that it has been blocked.
To unblock a number, simply go back into your list of recent calls, find the number you want to unblock, and tap it again. It will then appear as normal without being grayed out.
Swipe left until you see Info and then tap on it
Go to Settings, then scroll down and tap Phone. Scroll down until you see Blocked. Tap add new contact and enter the number you want to block and tap on it twice. The person who has been blocked will no longer be able to call or text message you. If someone tries to call you from this number they will get an error message saying that this person is not available.

- Open your Settings app
- Scroll down and tap Phone → Call Blocking & Identification → Add New…
- Tap the number you want to block and set the duration you want it blocked for: one year, never, or until you unblock them (or if this is your first time blocking a number, it will be indefinitely)
- The newly blocked number will have an exclamation point next to it
Add the phone number you want to block
- Navigate to the Settings app on your phone.
- Scroll down and select Phone.
- Tap Blocked at the top of the screen, followed by Add New.
- Type in the number you want to block and tap Save at the bottom of the screen when finished.
- Tap next to Incoming Calls, Outgoing Calls, or Messages, depending on what type of communication you want to block from that contact.
