How to get to Draenor from Stormwind and Orgrinmar
The new World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, officially launches on November 13th, but you don’t have to wait until then to start playing. You can actually head over to the region of Draenor from the very beginning—if you know where to go and what to do! Here’s how to get to Draenor from Stormwind and Orgrinmar.
The Basics
The easiest way to get there is by flying. For Alliance, you can fly to the Stormwind Airfield in Western Europe; if you’re Horde, you’ll take a flight in Eastern Europe at the Grom’gol Base Camp. Once on the ground, head north through a tunnel that leads into this new world. Once out of the tunnel, turn left and head south over bridges until you reach your destination: Orgrimmar!
Step 1: Create A Level 90 Character
To prepare for your trip, you first need to create a level 90 character. As of this writing, the cheapest way to do so is buying one of the following Warlords of Draenor Standard Edition ($39.99), Warlords of Draenor Collector’s Edition ($79.99), or Warlords of Draenor Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99). The Digital Deluxe Edition will give you instant access to World of Warcraft content through August 19th and early access with 10 days’ worth of game time on November 13th.
Step 2: Get the Very Best Gear
There are a few important tasks you will need to complete before you embark on your journey. The first is to obtain the best gear that you can. This should be relatively easy for you as a high level player, but if this is your first time getting geared, there are some important things to know. Once you have the best items for your character (don’t forget the food buff!) it’s time to start working on gold.
Step 3: Obtain The Right Reputation
Once you have the right supplies, it’s time to make your way back up north. You should now have enough reputation with the factions in place so that you can buy your way onto a ship. When looking for a ship, look for something that will take you up rather than across water. The ships going to Stormwind are few and far between as most people want to go across the ocean instead of inland. The same is true for Orgrinmar but there are more boats sailing to this location.
Step 4: Getting to Draenor – Opening the Dark Portal
It may seem impossible, but you can visit the world of Draenor! How? Enter a little World of Warcraft history lesson: The Dark Portal was built by the orc Warlocks as part of their siege on Stormwind. It was never opened, but this is what you’re looking for. There are actually two portals that exist in game: one near Shattrath City in Outland and another in your garrison which can be accessed through the Trading Post or Magic Menagerie portals.
